Felted Market Bag

These were my first attempts at felting and I must say I am now absolutely addicted

Felted Bag for Nanny S

Before Felting

After Felting

To Felt you need to use 100% hand wash only wool, NOT machine washable.
Knit your item over sized, casting off and weaving in ends as usual. Put your finished item inside a pillow case with a tennis ball, tie closed the end (i use a hair tie) then place the pillow case with an old pair of jeans in the washing machine.  The pillow case will stop your machine getting coated in excess fluff and the tennis ball and jeans are used to create some friction.  Wash on the hottest temperature that your machine can be set to with a little squirt of dishwashing liquid. What you are trying to achieve is what you don't want to do to your favourite wool jumper - shrinkage and felting.  Remove you item, shape as desired using bowls, plastic boxes or scrunched up plastic bags and allow to dry.
I knit these with 4ply and 8ply wool held together.
